The Paleo Diet is quite similar to another very popular weight loss program, The Atkins diet. The theory behind it is that high carbs and processed foods are the reason why so many people are not only overweight, but sick as well. So they decided to go way back to the Paleolithic period. Back in those days we didn’t eat all the junk we do now. Heck most of it wasn’t even available at that time.

This diet is centered on one simple concept. If the cavemen didn’t eat it, neither should you. That means chips, candy and sodas are out the door and chicken, fruits and vegetables are in. What you eat and how much of you eat will depend on your specific goals.

So the million dollar question is will you lose weight with this diet? Truth is there is no hard evidence saying that you will. However, whenever you cut out processed foods there is a very good chance you will lose weight because your overall calorie intake goes down. Add in some exercise and you will lose even more weight. Whether you keep it off depends on you and what you do after you go off the diet.

The big problem with the Paleo Diet is that you can miss a lot of the nutrients your body needs on a daily basis. And you have to be very careful with your lean meat choices or you could end up with some serious heart problems. Just like with any diet it is a good idea to talk to your doctor before you start.

The Paleo Diet goes above the government recommended amount of daily fat intake by about 4%. That means you will be getting a little fatter in your diet. Depending on the person, this can be both a good and bad thing.

For many, the Paleo Diet is very difficult to follow. I mean it can be weird eating a sandwich without any bread. Any diet that requires you to completely change the way you eat can be very hard to deal with it. Especially in the beginning. But if you stick with it things will eventually become a lot easier.

And the great thing is that you can make the diet your own. If you need to, it’s okay to slip in a cheat meal once a week. And if you eat the way the diet tells you to, you will never have to worry about feeling hungry.

Exercise is also a very important part of this diet. It’s based on the caveman and cavemen where always on the move. That means you need to be on the move too. Start working out at least 3 or 4 times a week. A brisk 30 minute walk will do wonders for your body and your health.

Overall this is a good diet for the right person. Not everyone will be able to handle this sort of diet. You have to do the research and find out if it is right for you. If it isn’t, take the time to find a diet that will suit you.
