Anti-aging Vitamins and You

If Mark Twain had known of anti-aging vitamins, perhaps he would not have claimed that life would be infinitely happier if only we could be born at eighty years of age and head gradually towards the age of eighteen.

Unfortunately, aging is a part of life and cannot be avoided, however with anti-aging vitamins and supplements it can be slowed and if rapid aging has occurred, it can be reversed.

Before we seriously look at anti-aging methods we need to face the disagreeable truth that the modern Western lifestyle actually accelerates aging. Our modern, nutritionally deficient diets which are largely based on high sugar, high fat, chemically enhanced processed foods are leaving our bodies starved of the very vitamins, minerals and enzymes that keep us healthy and slow aging. Coupled with this aging diet, our often sedentary lifestyles also cause us to age faster than necessary. Regular physical exercise has an anti-aging effect. So while there are certainly anti-aging vitamins and other natural supplements you can take to help reverse signs of aging, these will not be that effective unless you are prepared to completely overhaul your lifestyle and eat a very healthy diet as well as engaging in daily exercise. If you do this consistently and avoid any junk food, you will begin to regain a more youthful energy, vigor and even appearance.

Once you have made the necessary healthy changes to your lifestyle, you can incorporate anti-aging vitamins and other supplements such as minerals, herbs and special foods that aid in the restoration of youthful brain function, coordination, and even appearance. However, antiaging vitamins are best obtained from whole foods that are full of phyto-nutrients and compounds that give the body exactly what they need for longevity and health. Special foods that should be incorporated in any anti-aging diet are chlorella, spirulina, sprouts, seaweed and other sea vegetables, soy products and quinoa. These foods have been found to promote longevity and significantly improve immune function.

Fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants which have strong anti-aging properties and include phyto-nutrients such as resveratrol (in red wine, grape seeds and skins) and anthocyanins which give strawberries and blueberries their respective colors. They also contain the anti-aging vitamins A, C and E which are also antioxidants and offer enormous health and longevity benefits. When you get these antioxidants from fresh fruit and vegetables as opposed to taking supplements, you will gain the synergistic benefit of hundreds of compounds working together to heal, repair, build and in various ways benefit your body. Supplementation with resveratrol can however be beneficial because the amount of resveratrol you can get in a normal diet is lower than you are likely to need to make a difference. Resveratrol has been shown in scientific studies on rats to have significant anti-aging properties.

Vitamin A is an antioxidant that protects your muscles against free radical damage. It is found in green, orange and yellow vegetables and for it to act efficiently should be gained as far as possible from these natural sources. Vitamin C is another of the anti-aging vitamins. It is highly beneficial because it is non specific as an antioxidant and can remove a range of different types of free radicals from the body. It can even restore Vitamin E which is probably the best known of the anti-aging vitamins. Vitamin E is a highly effective antioxidant which strengthens the immune and cardiovascular systems as well as protecting against cancer by destroying free radicals. If you take Vitamin E in supplement form make sure it is natural rather than synthetic. It is also important to ensure your supplement comprises all the components of Vitamin E, not simply alpha-tocopherol.

Anti-aging vitamins can easily be absorbed through vegetable juices. Juicing your own combinations of healthy drinks can most certainly keep you looking young. This is a study in itself but one well worth undertaking. However, unless you drink adequate amounts of pure water every day no other action will work. So make sure that water is your friend. As well as drinking water to slow or reverse aging you must get adequate sleep and minimize the amount of negative stress in your life. If you can’t do this, it is important to learn to manage it. Learn to relax, meditate or do yoga. High stress levels cause rapid aging so you need bring as much peace and harmony into your life as possible in order to stay young as long as possible.

Omega-3 fatty acids are also important for improved brain function, coordination and general good health. Together with anti-aging vitamins and minerals found in whole foods and some supplements, omega-3 fatty acids are necessary to improve health and reverse the signs of aging.

Another important anti-aging supplement is DHEA. DHEA or dehydroepiandrosterone is a hormone which is produced in the adrenal glands and declines as we age. Since DHEA converts to both estrogen and testosterone this decline is linked to aging. DHEA production peaks at age twenty five and then falls due to gradual shrinkage of the endocrine glands. Scientists have linked this decline with a number of age related illnesses. Without DHEA supplementation, a typical forty year old is already deficient. Only ten percent of the DHEA we have when we are twenty years old is produced by our bodies when we are eighty. Therefore, DHEA supplementation should be included in any anti-aging program.

No matter how much older than your age you look and feel, you can begin to reverse the damage and quickly look and feel younger. By changing your diet to include a host of anti-aging vitamins, minerals, enzymes and various life giving compounds you will have taken powerful steps towards recovering your youth. It is never too late. Add exercise, plenty of water, and the supplements mentioned in this article and your friends (and enemies) will be shocked and envious. You may or may not decide to share your secret.
