When it comes to losing weight there are without a doubt thousands of different programs to choose from. All of those programs will probably fall under one of these 5 types of diets to lose weight.
Diet Type #1 – Low Fat Diet
A low fat diet is a diet where you reduce the percentage of fat you take in on a daily basis. When you reduce fat you will reduce the amount of calories you eat. As a result, you will lose weight. However, keep in mind that low fat does not mean low calories. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Go easy on the meat and dairy products so you can watch your fat intake. If you are going to eat, it make sure it is only 5 to 7 ounces a day.
Also make sure it is either chicken or fish. To be successful on this type of diet, make sure you read labels. Look for foods with the label low fat, non-fat or reduced fat. The most important number is the total fat so pay close attention to it.
Diet Type #2 – Low Carbohydrates Diet
The Atkins diet is probably the most popular low carbohydrate diet there is. This type of diet is high in protein and low in carbohydrates. The idea is restrict your carbs to the point where your body goes into ketosis. This is what will ultimately lead to weight loss. On this type of diet foods such as bread and pasta will be very limited or not allowed at all. You will be eating a lot of lean meats and plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Diet Type #3 – Low Calorie Diet
Low calorie diets focus on calorie deficits between 500 and 1000 calories per day. That means if you currently eat 2000 calories a day, you will now eat 1000 calories a day. Anytime you have such a dramatic deficit you will lose weight. Weight Watchers is a good example of a low calorie diet. With weight watchers you will eat a certain amount of calories everyday. As long as you stick with your allotted amount of calories you should drop pounds every week.
Diet Type #4 – Very Low Calorie Diet
A very low calorie diet, or VLC diet, is a diet where you eat a very small amount of calories on a daily basis. In most cases you won’t be eating more than 800 calories per day. You will pretty much be starving your body. Which by the way is not the best idea. Anytime you lower your calories in such a dramatic fashion you will lose weight initially but it will quickly slow down. This is not the type of diet you want to be on for an extended period of time.
Diet Type #5 – Detox Diets
A detox diet is when you detox your body of all the harmful toxins that sometimes build up. Most detox diets use herbs and other remedies such as dandelion to help clean out your system. Weight loss is actually a by-product of getting rid of all those toxins in your body.
