The 40-Day Juice Diet – Part 2

HCGdiet.com

I recently was asked the question:

“What if I don’t have the time to juice or my juicer is not available?  Can I just buy juice pre-bottled from the grocery store to include in my juice diet?

There will always be times when you may not have access to your juice extractor.

In these times it is suitable to have a bottled juice.  It’s certainly much better than grabbing some fast food or muffins and sugary treats.

Be careful about the sodium content and any added sugar in pre-bottled juices!

Try to find juices that have processed via High Pressure Processing (HPP) instead of thermal pasteurization.

Medifast

Why?

Because HPP uses minimal heat. Pasteurized foods get their vital enzymes and nutrients cooked right out of them because it is a food processing method using high heat. Manufacturers are left with having to add back vitamins to replace them.

HPP uses pressure of up to 100,000 psi and most vegetative bacteria are inactivated at pressures greater than 60,000 psi. The nutrients, however, are left intact.

Look for these foods in the refrigerator section of your grocer.

OK, what juice diet recipe did I create this morning?

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 C spinach
  • 1 C pineapple
  • 2 carrots

I tried to cut back a little on the fruit and replaced it with a cucumber.  The pineapple adds just enough sweetness to satisfy my palate.

Day 6/Feb 11 – Wt 145.0, Lost 7.6 lbs/3.4 kg

That’s another 0.8 lbs while on the juice diet!  Looks like I can start a little exercise since my hydration level is stabilized.

I have been asked if I could also list the weight loss in metric/Kg.  The conversion rate of US pounds (lbs) to Kg is:

1 Kg = 2.2 lbs

Last evening I had:

  • 4 leaves of kale
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 beet
  • 2 carrots
  • 3 green apples
  • 1 stick celery
  • 1/2 lemon

Hmm, I have to confess that I did not particularly enjoy this one much.

It made about 25 oz/750ml which I drank over 2 hours.  No way was I going to chugalug this down quickly!

Remember that if you are not going to consume your juice within 15 minutes it’s a good idea to keep it in a light proof container & refrigerated.  You want as little light and air in contact with your juice as possible so that it doesn’t oxidize.

Try to use a container that you can fill to the very top to minimize the air within the container.

Before you drink your stored juice simply invert the container a few times – don’t shake it!  Shaking introduces too much air and will oxidize your phytonutrients.

Progress….slow and steady.

This morning I could actually enjoy my juice!

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 C pineapple
  • 1 C spinach
  • 1 cucumber (about 12 in/30cm long)
  • 2 carrots

Lightly sweet and mild in flavor.  Delicious!

Day 7/Feb 12 – Wt 143.8, Lost 8.8 lbs/4.0 kg

I stepped on the scale this morning and the first two words out of my mouth were:

“Holy cow!” (actually it was something slightly different, but my point is that I was very surprised)

Yesterday I added 30 minutes of light exercise consisting of low impact aerobics.  There was no perceived weakness while exercising which I was also very happy about.

My juice diet magic potion last night included (made 25 oz/750ml):

  • 4 leaves of kale
  • 3 green apples
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 celery stick
  • 1/2 lemon

Kale and I are becoming good friend so I’ll up the kale to 5 leaves tonight.  Celery is another story but you figure there has be to some catch to this juice diet!

A good question I have been asked is:

“Do you only have the juices all day long?  NOTHING else?”

In terms of nutrition, yes.  The juices provide many important nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, calcium but without any bulk & fat.  A serving of the green kale juice has about 8 gm of protein.

However, I do also drink another 32-48 oz (960-1440ml) of either white or green tea during the juice diet.  Water, of course, would be perfectly fine, I just happen to really love tea.

Both white and green tea are naturally low in caffeine but also have EGCG to boost your antioxidants!

Benefits of White, Green, Oolong & Black Tea

If wanting to add a sweetener to your tea go for Stevia instead of Equal, Sweet-n-Low, or Splenda.  All three of these artificial sweeteners have an acidic effect on the body vs Stevia which is more alkaline. A slightly alkaline diet aids in weight loss.

I think you would enjoy the following juice I made this morning:

  • 3 oranges
  • 3/4 C blackberries
  • 1 C raspberries
  • 1 C spinach
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 cucumber

Final word:  yummy!

Day 8/Feb 13 – Wt 143.6, Lost 9.0 lbs/4.1 kg

Aww…only down another 0.2 lbs.

Almost seems a bit disappointing after a week of consistently losing 0.5 lbs or more.  But that’s the realistic nature of any diet so one just has to stay disciplined.

Hey, besides, 9 lbs in a week is GREAT!

Trying to increase the veggie content of my juice – you’ll notice both kale & celery are up by looking at the evening juice recipe:

  • 5 leaves of kale
  • 3 green apples
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 sticks celery
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/2 lemon

A friend asked me if during the juice diet it was okay to put the entire apple in the juice extractor, seeds and all.  Good question.

Apple seeds contain amygdalin which is converted to hydrogen cyanide within your intestine.

Cyanide is able to bind to hemoglobin in your blood which prevents oxygen from getting to all your tissues & cells.

It basically results in internal asphyxiation!

Fortunately the amount of seeds you would have to consume is fairly large.  Just swallowing a few whole apple seeds is easily detoxified by your body. However, chewing the seeds or, as during juicing, shredding them, allows the toxic compound to be released and more

easily absorbed by your body.

For this reason it is recommended that you removed all seeds before putting them through your juice extractor. I am definitely removing the seeds because I am averaging about 5 green apples per day!

And now the juice diet delicious morning concoction:

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 C pineapple
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 C spinach
  • 3 carrots

So far so good.  On to week #2 of the juice diet!

Day 9/Feb 14 – Wt 143.2, Lost 9.4 lbs/4.3 kg
